Teekan and Hilgrim hurry back to Brem before dark, their hearts full of sorrow and grief for their comrades lost in the ferocious battle against the ogre and his hobgoblins. They reach the hamlet just after dusk and negotiate their way in with the guards telling them that they were on a mission for Captain Raban Starke. They go straight to the barrack and explain the situation to the officer (saying nothing yet about the watchtower and its location). He says that he is sorry for their loss but can't give them any money since they didn't bring back the heads. If they tell him where their encampment is, he will send a detachment of his man-at-arms to eliminate them. Teekan says they would like to return by themselves if possible as they must now avenge their friends personally. The Captain accepts but tells them that he will want results in the following days or he will withdraw the reward. Hilgrim asks if the good captain would know of any other adventurers that would want to join forces with them. He answers that he will check his files and give them an answer tomorrow.
Raban offers the two survivors to spend the night in the barracks bunk beds for free. They accept, happy not to have to use any of their meagre funds for the night. They quickly fall into a deep, troubled sleep, reliving the death of their companions through vivid nightmares. They wake up, late in the morning, hours after the soldiers left for their daily duties. They ask for the captain but the officer on duty replies that he left for the day, but left them a note. He has arranged a meeting for them with other adventurous folks at one o'clock near the market square by the temple to Faelon. The officier offers them a small lunch before seeing them off.
When you arrive at the market square you see a ragtag band of odd looking fellows waiting for you by the temple. They are four and each want to leave Brem in search of adventure for different reasons. After introducing yourselves to one another, you start discussing about what your next step will be.
