Yes, we would like to see the Minister of Commerce about the attacks on your caravans near the Caves of Chaos.

The clerk stands up and leaves by a door at the back of the room. A minute later he reappears and mention you to follow him through another door. You are lead into another room where a tall slender man with grey hairs swept back and an aquiline nose. He motions you to sit and speaks: "My clerk tells me you want to help us with the attacks on some of the merchant caravans. Well it is fairly simple, the demi-human tribes from the Caves of Chaos sometimes descend upon travelers and merchants on the road. Most of the time they kill and loot but in the last attack they also made a prisoner. If you could rescue him the Guild will pay you a 100 gold piece reward, grant you honorary Guild status, and exempt your troupe for one year from any fees, dues, taxes, and the like which the Guild would normally collect. Also, accomplishing this task would put you in a good position to receive further assignments from the Guild."

I whisper "100 gp is not amazing but we may find more gold when we free the hostage. I would take the assignment"

Varick
Varick has a few questions for the Minister before heading out, When is your next caravan going past the caves? Can we offer protection in exchange for transportation? Are you sure your man is still alive, what does he look like, what is his name? Can you give us some rations and/or equipment?
(( Unless the Minister offers some rations, Varick will buy some before heading off to the Caves of Chaos with his brave companions. ))

The Minister answers Varick, "A caravan normally comes in from Treshold about once a month. The trip takes a whole week. If you want to leave the Keep for Treshold and have proven that you are skilled guardsmen, maybe we could hire you to protect the next caravan that comes in on its way back."
After a brief pause he adds, "We presume that he is still alive. Why else would they have captured him living instead of killing him outright. Of course, the longer it takes for a rescue party to save him, the less likely he is of still being alive. His name is Alfonso and he is a middle-aged human. I cannot tell you much more, I do not know all traders intimately."
On the last question he finishes with, "All the quality equipment and items you need are readily available at a fair price from one of the many fine establishments of the Keep. With that I have work to do, so if you'd excuse me..."
